What is an Unconference?

This will be edited often

An unconference is a participant-driven conference centered around a theme or purpose. Participant-driven? Yes, you will dictate the topics and you will be the teachers! Me? Yes, you! You work on the front lines and hold expertise others are begging to learn. Seriously, at conferences the best information often comes from the conversations held between sessions. We want to tap that knowledge to benefit everyone. Unconferences are not about big-name speakers, they are about letting everyone attending take part in the conversation.

There will be two types of sessions.

  1. Lightning talks. These last 5 to 10 minutes with 5 minutes for questions and feedback. These are about finite ideas can be about a cool project you think others will be interested or mini inquiry sessions where you have an idea that would benefit from audience feedback.
  • Group discussions. These small group sessions will last about 50 minutes. The goal is to gather a group of people intensely interested in a given topic. A group leader will start with a presentation, then follow up with discussion.

What do you want to learn?

Step One :: Go to our Unconference Ideas page and answer either of these questions....

    1. What do you want to learn?
    2. What topic would you like to teach or facilitate?

Everyone attending the Unconference must answer at least one of these questions.

Now go to it on our Unconference Ideas page!  (How to add ideas in 7 easy steps)

Step Two :: In a couple months, we will then take all of those proposed topics and have participants vote on them. Those receiving the most votes will be offered during the Unconference.

Step Three :: At this point we'll finalize the agenda, get presenters information and work to get continuing education credits.

Could you post a link to registration with the cost of the unconference and the cost of parking?

Thanks SO much for your question, Cynthia!

We've just finalized all the PR information for the event - and I've posted the UnConference's flyer - which all ILF members should be soon receiving in hard copy via U.S. post very soon - here in the Wiki...

I've also amended our "Getting There" page with parking information... The "Getting There" page also includes directions and an interactive map to Ball State's Bracken Library...

Hope to see you all at the UnConference!!
